Arry & Michell

January 18–20, 2027Chennai, India

Yes, it's actually happening.

Our story

7 years in the making.

Freshman Year

Freshman 15

Most people get the Freshman 15, Michell, got the Freshman 150, a 150lb skinny Indian boy who showed up by her side in first year and never left. 7 years later and he's still here. (No diet has worked so far. Doctors are shocked.)

Will You Marry Me?

7 years later, Arry finally asked. (Yes, it's about time.)

At lunch at UBC after a friend introduced us.

Michell told Arry she was going to a Bollywood Party. Naturally, Arry became a Bollywood enthusiast overnight and tagged along.

Our first date. We went to A&W and talked about life.

(We were 18 and Michell was drunk so A&W seemed like a great idea.)

Eating great food in great places together.

That we're never getting a cat.

And that the Olive Theory is a real thing.

YVR & DXB.

Arry.

Arry.

We have a Shared Notes with things we want to talk about as a running agenda.

A long time ago. Arry's just slow.

Our trip to Bali where Arry proposed.

We don't know. Somewhere warm. But we know Michell will plan the food and Arry will plan the logistics.

What to wear

Dress for Every Occasion

Three days, three occasions.

Day 1January 18

Engagement & Sangeet

Just festive Indian wear

No western formal — save that for the wedding. Shine bright in your Indian outfits.

Men

Sherwani, bandhgala jacket with trousers, or a sharp kurta. Avoid plain office shirts.

Women

Lehenga, saree, or anarkali. Rich jewel tones and festive embellishment are welcome.

Day 2 (morning)January 19

Haldi/Nalungu

Light traditional or casual wear

The Haldi/Nalungu is a ritual where haldi or sandalwood paste is applied to the couple. Our families will likely be in South Indian outfits so you are more than welcome to join us and wear light sarees and veshtis. But you also have the option of wearing light and casual western or any other Indian outfits.

Men

Old cotton kurta or simple shirt and trousers. Yellow or white work well symbolically.

Women

Cotton salwar, casual kurta, or any comfortable outfit. Yellow and white are traditional choices.

Day 3 (morning)January 20

Wedding Ceremony

Formal — church setting

Traditional South Indian wear like sarees and veshtis, or formal Western wear like suits and dresses, are all welcome.

Men

Dark suit or formal South Indian attire (veshti with silk shirt or kurta). No denim or open shirts.

Women

Formal saree, silk salwar, maxi dress, or tailored dress. Shoulders covered; please bring a stole if needed.

Avoid all-white (traditionally reserved for mourning in South India) and very casual attire.

"Whatever you do, make sure you come ready to party."

Registry

You're the gift

If you feel inclined to give a small gift, we'll have a small area for cards at the Engagement.
